In the very center of Warsaw, at Marszałkowska 72 street, you can admire one of the most beautiful neo-Gothic corner tenement houses in Śródmieście. In the second half of the nineteenth century, in architecture, there was a period of searching for a national style, called the Vistula-Baltic Gothic style. Edward Goldberg designed this tenement house in this style for the Taubenhaus family. It was put into use in 1898. During the war, the tenement house was slightly damaged. The first reconstruction took 5 years. A real major renovation of the tenement house was carried out in the years 1998-2001. It houses, among others, the Institute of Italian Culture and the Representation of the Italian Institute of Foreign Trade. In the added part from the side of Jana Skorupki street, there is the reception and the lobby of the hotel, which has been operating since 2004.
Hotel Residence 1898 offers 24 elegant, luxurious and spacious apartments, majority with kitchenettes, a dining room and a bedroom. The interiors are kept in light, warm colors. A glass pyramid-shaped skylight has been installed in the renovated large inner yard. A long-time client of Residence 1898 are guests of embassies from various countries. From 2021 the owner of Residence 1989 is closely related to the capital of Skorpion Arte sp.z o.o. – a company dealing in the production of cinema and television feature films, series and film television theaters. The main shareholder and president of the company, Krzysztof Grędziński, is a member of the Polish and European Film Academy. The company Residence 1898 plans to gradually revitalize the hotel rooms, aiming to combine the style from the turn of the 2000s with the newest.
